Phalaenopsis Bellina Question

Hi Everyone,
Good News!!
The ailing phalaenopsis Bellina that I mentioned in my introduction thread has pirked up signifigantly and now has 6.5 leaves
As it is in the process of growing a new leaf I have a question.
There seems to be something that looks like a spike growing from the second to last leaf axle on the left side of the plant.
I'm just wondering, since it is growing a new leaf could this probably just be a root seeing as how the leaf is probably already taking up a signifgant amount of engery to develop.
Even though I've been growing phals for a while now, I (myself) have found it rare for a phal to be growing a leaf and a spike at the same time.

I've seen it happen, but I agree, it seems to be rare. Regardless, with that many leaves, it must be a pretty happy plant. I guess, with a plant that size, I wouldn't be too surprised either way.

That sounds like good news, AlessandraS. It must be a health plant either way. Maybe post a photo if you are able.

That is good news ! could be either , if it looks like a mitten on the tip then it probably is a bloom spike , Where I live it is the time of the year for them to bloom . Congrats. either way it sounds happy . Gin

My boyfriend took my digital camera to Arizon for some artwork that he was doing, I should be able to get some photos when he returns.

I'm reviving this thread because I'm very new to the violacea/bellina family and I was wondering...
My bellina has now 6 medium leaves and just started to grow new roots in the s/h media since I repotted it in November.
I noticed yesterday that it is starting a spike...How odd is that, considering that, as I understand, these are summer bloomers? I thought that bellinas spiked in May.
Growing conditions: s/h media, in a glass bowl, over a radiator, next to a big southern window, temps are 65F (18C) - 70F (21C). Any ideas?

Congrats. it looks very healthy the spikes are so slow to grow it might be May before you will see blooms Mine seem to have no set time to spike just when the mood hits them . Happy Growing Gin

Thanks Gin for the info. I'm so impatient with this bellina, because my other violacea (sumatra) has stopped growing during the winter and I really want to see a violacea bloom up close.
I wonder if I should place it under light or keep it warmer as well, to decrease the waiting period.
