keiki?

Can this be a keiki? The roots are on the bottom of a spike that has bulbs. If so, What should I do?




Also, I have a Phal that has not grown a spike for more than a year now. I read in one of the threads that maybe repotting would help her. But what should I do if it has some roots sick to the pot and wall?

When the keikei on your dendrobium gets roots about 3-4 inches long, and has at least 3-4 roots you can detach it from the p-bulb with a sharp blade and repot it in a mix suitable for a baby plant.
As for your phal with the roots stuck to the pot. If it is a clay pot, it is best to break the pot apart and leave the pieces attached when you repot. Try to get the pieces small enough to fit in your new pot. If it's a plastic pot, a few squeezes here and there and a pinch at the bottom of the pot will let them loose. One nice thing about plastic is that the roots do not permanently attach. Get the roots wet before trying to remove them from the container and they will be less prone to breaking.
Also; I have found that if I find a plant to be rather healthy in it's original container and mix, I try to replicate it as closely as possible. It is less stress on the plant.

Hi All,

I reviewed the picture and the post. Unfortunately, my experience with this kind of kieki (in Hawaii pronounce this as kay-kay), is that it does not grow. This sometimes happens with a dendrobium spike and usually does not have any growing eyes at the base. It is always worth a try though to see if this time it will grow.

aww that's to bad Ron. I was looking forward to it... Anyways will try, hope I don't damage the "mother" though.

I did the repotting of the phal. As I feared I lost some good roots. But hey it is my first time repotting. I hope it survives cause I like her very much. Her are some pics





It was a gift an had no name tag so its going to be difficult to replace her. I found this pic of her (although not my phal-won't take credit for it) but nobody as been able to tell me her name.



After I did the job I noticed this (see pic below). I don't know if its going to be a root or a spike. I hope that if it was going to be a spike that it continues growing even though she went through a lots of stress today.
