    Smile Enc. Tampensis

Back when I first began collecting orchids, I discovered a species native to our area. The Encyclia Tampensis or Butterfly Orchid is native to Florida, south of Orlando (as well as Cuba, and the Bahamas). I will end up mounting these on a local tree eventually. First though, I think I will grow them mounted and get them a little larger so they'll have a better chance of surviving. First some small ones, next a flask!

    I got a great deal so I got 3....

One even has a tiny thing that looks like a flower spike...but it may just be another leaf growing. Time will tell....

I love the blooms on those guys and how lucky are you that you will be able to mount them and have them grow on a tree in your backyard!
I would mount the 3 of them all bunched up together if I were you.

They are hearty little buggers, you should do fine with them. I have them on my date palm and I never do anything for them but they grow and bloom well. Blooms usually appear around Mother's Day.

I have a dwarf date palm out front that would be an excellant candidate for being covered in orchids....
Thanks all...this one finally came off my wanted list after 3 years.

I saw a ton of these guys last year when I was in Ft. Lauderdale. Sadly, I was there in January and they were not in bloom.
