Growing imports

Anyone here in the northern hemisphere have much experience growing direct imports from the southern hemisphere? I may soon come to own a division of a plant that was imported from "down south" and the current owner says this division came in last winter but is still having a difficult time adjusting to the seasonal differences.

What advice would you very experienced growers offer regarding this issue? It is a Rhyncholaelia digbyana, by the way.

How cold are they letting their growing area get in the winter? I've grown them here without any trouble, but keep the GH heated to 60 where the catts are. Other than that, their care is the same as for standard catts: bright, bright light, roots that dry off between waterings. I would think that a year is plenty enough time for the plant to get acclimated--you shouldn't have any problems if the plant was in good shape to begin with.

Well, they keep their greenhouse plenty warm, but I've since seen a good pix of the division and it is not a strong division at all. Looks like it's struggling a lot with getting it's roots established let alone trying to grow new anything else. So, if after a year it's looking that touch and go, I had to let the "opportunity" pass by. I don't have a greenhouse and it would have to be able to make it in my windowsill-with-ICU-unit situation. I don't have what it needs.
