My "passion" for orchids is newfound, and since I'm just getting started, I can't exactly claim to even be a grower of orchids. On another thread, Bruce suggested that I share some of my wildlife photos with you. I don't photograph people very often, but anything to do with nature just gets that shutter finger going, and especially when it's wildlife. In the wildlife category, I guess birds would head my list. So, for you animal/wildlife/nature lovers out there:


This is a Tri-Colored Heron that visits us here where I live





A Snowy Egret, shot at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge





A Brown Pelican, also shot at Ding Darling






A Little Green Heron, shot here at home. He's a frequent visitor






And finally (so as not to overload the bandwidth, or bore you all to death), a Cormorant, shot at Flamingo Gardens, in Davie, Florida. For obvious reasons, I've titled this one, "Oy, have I got a headache."

Be careful what you ask for!! LOL You just might get more than you bargained for!!

This is not technically a good shot, but I was the only one on my recent Costa Rica trip to actually get a shot of a monkey. This one's a Howler Monkey. We were on the Arenal Tram, and he was a small black fuzzball way off in the distance. I wasn't even sure I had anything until we got to the bottom of the ride and I checked my shots. Boy was I surprised to see him staring right at me!!



And you know what? You can shoot wildlife too. Got a camera? Just go out and practice. Animals and birds are creatures of habit, and you'll throw out tons of shots, but every once in awhile, something will surprise you!! It's really not all that difficult.

omg! he is so gorgeous, It looks a very good shot to an untrained eye, he really is beautiful, I have a basic digital camera and so far I seem to all get blurry shots as my hands shake ( I am not a drinker, I have M.E. )my hubby trys to find ways for me to take shots of my orchids as although he can do it for me I do like to get them myself.

Do you have a tripod? If not, I suggest you try that. And since I don't know what type of camera you're using, check your manual and see if you can use a shutter cable. That will help you to keep the camera from shaking and causing blurred shots. If your orchids are on tables, you might even be able to use a small tabletop tripod.

Thank you yes we are hoping to get some sort of tripod for this little camera but it is automatic with different settings on just looked at camera and its Pentax Optio 3.2 mega pixel 3x zoom and says 5.8mm - 17.4mm but dont know what that means lol we have a mini tripod but its very unstable and flimsy and I have knocked it over twice so we are looking into something better. Thank you for your help.

Carrie, Stack books in a pile in front of you orchid for it's glamour shot, set the camera on the books adjusting height with more or less books. That should help give a firm base for your still life shots.
