once resupinate always resupinate?

So, thanks to Louis I know that my zygo blossoms have opened resupinate. Is this a trait that stays with a particular plant forever, every time it blooms, or something that occurs once in a while among the plants prone to it? Not that I mind if my zygo is "eccentric" like this all the time, I am delighted with it for many other reasons. But I am curious about this effect in general.

To my knowledge, yes. The trait is genetic, so a species with resupinate blooms will always try to bloom more or less upside down. Since buds will twist to orient themselves properly before they open, you can always trick them by staking the spike to one side while the buds are developing and then staking it to the opposite side once they've opened!
