Newbie Catt question

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired 2 catt. hybrids, Blc. Cornerstone 'orchis' and Lc. Orglade's Grand 'orchis'. My question; is there a special meaning on the "orchis"? I tried googling both and I came up with a bloom similar to my Lc. Orglade's Grand 'orchis' but the name is Lc. Orglade's Grand 'Yu-Chang Beauty'

Attached is the bloom on my Lc. Orglade's Grand 'orchis', it's almost done blooming so the flower is starting to wilt.

"orchis" is a name given to a particular orchid by the grower or a person who got an award for the particular plant. Sometimes vendors will use their company name in this location on the tag.

Thanks Bruce, so is it their clonal names? Can two different plants have the same clonal name? Also, I have a few Portia's/Porcia's; Portia 'Westonbirt', Portia 'Ol', Portia 'Vic', Portia 'Zuei Nang' where I'm having a hard time getting info, does this mean they are not registered?

Many may not be registered and yes, 2 different plants can have the same clonal name. For instance, we have several orchids from Hawaii that have the clonal name of 'HOF'. (Nursery Name) and they look nothing alike and some of them are alike. Then there are the variations on a name like 'HOF#1', 'HOF#2', and 'HOF6'. LOL. I have so many phals that carry the clonal name 'Brother' it is almost funny. My excell program suggests 'Brother' every time I start entering a new phal name into the database. hehe...
