Miltonia 'Indigo Star'

I very recently purchased this Miltonia at our local orchid society's annual auction and I have searched the internet for an image of the flower with no luck whatsoever. It's a very healthy orchid that was over due for repotting and I ended up with three nice divisions. Anyone?

Mitch I can't find a pic either. It is an older cross...registered in 1982. That might be the reason. It is a cross of Miltonia Anne Warne x Miltonia clowesii Googling the parents might give you an idea of what the cross might look like but obviously M. Anne Warner is also an older cross.

BTW...no ' ' marks should be around the name...those are reserved for clonal name and not used in the epitaph. Your tag should read Miltonia Indigo Star ( I checked you can find a pic of Anne Warne). It looks much like Milt. spectabilis, indigo colored. I suspect your flower will look much like Miltonia Lake Sammamish. You can google that one for an idea.

It just brought back fond memories from seeing ELP in high school, I don't even begin to understand orchid naming seriously.

LOL, I had gotten into orchid naming info at one point and got good at it until the taxonomist messed me up with all the changes. So many genera are a mess now...especially with moving the South American laelias to Sophronitis and then taking them again and moving them to Cattleya. I said from the beginning that they did not belong in Sophronitis and refused to change my data base for I new it wouldn't stick...I am more agreeable with move to Cattleya but it still is not a perfect fit...I wouldn't be surprised if we see them moved again now there are also no Cirrhopetalums...they are all Bulbophyllums...that made life easier for me. Many that were Cirrhopetalum are now in Bulbo Section Cirrhopetalum

I am still learning the derivation of some of the species names, like echinolabium (Hedge-Hog Shaped Lip)

Still don't have the connection with Emerson, Lake and Palmer ????

In mycology we use echinulate to denote spines - but one of my favorite toothed fungi is the hedge-hog. I have absolutely no idea what an actual hedge-hog is though lol.
