tahoma glacier orchid - flowers won't open

Hello orchid lovers. I hope someone can help me. I've only been growing orchids for 2 yrs. My Tahoma Glacier Green has 8 buds but they won't open, they have been like this for several weeks. I water it twice weekly. Please help. It is also under a grow light. Two bulbs, 40 watts each, bulbs are plant and aquarium type. It gets approx. 13 hrs. of light. Thanks for any help you can offer!!!!!!!!!

The Tahoma Glacier flower is quite large and it may not be fully mature yet. Stick to your regular watering schedule and as long as they don't yellow and fall off, wait and see what happens. I'm betting it will put on a show for you.

Thank you!!! Should I just water weekly, or twice weekly? I live in North Carolina. It's about 70 degrees in the room where it lives. Thanks for such a quick reply!!! I love this forum.

That depends on how quickly it is drying out - my bet is that once a week would be enough. But to be sure, you should check to see if it is drying between waterings, not bone-dry, but only lightly damp. You can check this either by making not of the weight wet and dry or by sticking a sharpened pencil or wooden skewer into the mix. If it comes back wet, not time to water yet.

I have different medium for different types of orchids and the watering schedule differs for them. My Oncid Sharry Baby gets watered once a week because it is in a mix of bark and spag and stays damp longer than just bark. You will have to check for wettness like hcubed said. Search Tahoma GLacier on the commercial sites and I think you'll get a good idea of what it likes. It should be easy to find, its fairly common.

With the Tahoma GLacier I have found that its best to water them once weekly, if the temperature is 75 degrees or less
