what has worked best for you?
i know that its best to prevent problems with good culture, but sometimes you inherit diseases, etc. with new acquisitions.

ive upgraded my previously non-toxic arsenal to do battle.
just wanted to know what you all are using.

I literally just bought some Cleary's 3336 last week, as I've had some fungus problems with a few plants and was getting a bit worried. I got the powdered version, though you can get the liquid. The powder mixed fine in water, no big deal, and I poured it on my plants, no problem. The warning label is enough to put the fear of God into you, however, so take care when using this stuff. I can't vouch for its effectiveness as I just started using it. Expensive stuff, however, though Ki was able to find a decent price for the powder.

so can i ask why you and ki decided on clearys and not the other stuff?

I decided on Clearys because Floofy said so. If it works in Fla., it has to work here. (I think the AOS recommends it too.) WP was cheaper than liquid concentrate (IOW, can be bought in smaller quantities), and the liquid apparently is an oil-based spray (meaning no spraying in sun). I am lazier than John so I haven't used it yet.....

We use daconil here, on and off, rotated with some other things. It works very well, in my opinion; the only drawback is that it leaves a chalky white residue on the plants. If you don't mind that though, the orchids seem to do really well under it.

Anyone out there use sulpher for bacterial rot? I used it on a phal, cut off the soft rotten leaf part, sprayed the cut with alcohol and brushed sulpher powder on the cut. Viola, it worked for me. That plant is fine now...Haven't had much fungus, but when I do, I'll experiment again, and let you all know what happens...Betty

I have been using an antibacterial hand wash soap for preventation against fungus. One eye dropper full per gallon of water. I use it every time i water.

When ever i cut of a leaf or cut anything i seal it with elmer's wood glue.

It may sound crazy but it works. You might be afraid to try the soap. But once you try the elmer's you won't use anything else. An old time club member told me of the glue. I read about the soap in some book. Both of them work for me.

Hi Patrick, I guess everyone uses SOMETHING! LOL! I spray the cut leaf/root with alcohol, then brush plant sulphur on it. Works for me & my orchids. Betty in Texas
