Good question; from what I hear some use a torch, some soak their tools in Physan-20, there are a number of methods. Perhaps everyone will pipe in with their favorite methods of steralizing their tools.
I typically sterilize my media for about 25 min in the pressure cooker. As far as the equipments such as scalpels, I dip them in isopropyl alcohol, then flame them with a torch, just as Connie mentioned.
I use bleach, I soak instruments in bleach. It is also good to rinse your hands in bleach water between handling plants when you are opening wounds in them - anytime you might have a chance of transferring a fungus.
Thanks for the feedbacks. I do dip the instruments in alcohol. My question was does sterilising instruments in pressure cooker, for an hour, kill the germ, or it's not necessary as using 70%(?) bleach was good enough.
Another question of using alcohol. Is dipping without flaming effective to kill the foreign matters?
I am using a glove hood.
Halloamey, thanks for the tips.
