rootless phal

I'm in the habit of "rescuing" sick orchids from places like lowes and boxstore.In fact my best and first phal was $1.00 for lowes discount table,huge white blooms for 5 months.Anywhoo..I have a small phal that also came from the discount table,for a few months it was doing ok,even starting to grow new leaves,the last couple of weeks it has been getting limpy so today I unpotted it to find all the roots have died.I snipped off the dead parts,wrapped it up in moss and put it in a blastic baggie.Is there anything else I can do? I really would like to save this plant,it is the darkest maroon phal I've ever seen.

Gail, you might try dipping the base of the plant in rooting hormone solution before sealing it in the bag. Also, wrapping the plant with moss might keep it *too* wet. Some damp moss along with the plant in a sealed bag, not touching each other, will provide more than enough moisture to help stimulate new roots and keep the plant from drying up. You don't want to compound the rot problem.
