Repot or not to repot?

My orchid is starting to drop it's flowers and it has grown 2 arial roots about 2.5 inches or so long. The pot it's in right now seems like it might be a bit small? About 3-3.5 inches in diameter for a plant with 7" or so long leaves.

I was thinking of repotting in spagnum moss as that's what it's been in and doing well in so far. I was reading about when to repot and i'm concerned I let the arial roots grow too much. Any thoughts? thanks all!

can you post a picture of your orchid that way will be easier to know if it needs repotting. Alot of people here dont like using spagnum moss because it holds too much water and breaks down faster. It also depends what kind of orchid your trying to repot because different orchids need different mediums. Dont worry too much about the aerial roots, some orchids do this all the time. Sometimes you will be able to put the aerial roots into the pot when repotting but be careful not to brake it. the easy way to do it is by soaking them for a few minutes in water but if there is no way of putting them into the pot then just let them be =)

I repot all plants that are in sphagnum at least annually if not semi-annually, depends on the plant. Sphagnum tends to hold salts - you can burn roots easily otherwise.

I vote to repot and put into a bark mix. I have very poor luck with growing plants in sphagnum.

I'd definitely put the plant into some bark mix, but that's a question of what you like. It's a good time now that the plant has dropped the flowers.
If you do repot make sure not to use a pot that is too large. The size of the pot must fit to the roots, not to the leaves. Use the smallest pot possible because otherwise it may take to long for the bark or whatever to dry out and the roots might rot.

It would be a good time to repot now, because the flowers have died. The medium looks broken down too.

I would take look at the roots, and see if they need a bigger pot. If they do, go up one pot size
For the medium, I am a sphagnum moss grower, and LOVE moss, It is easy to repot with, and hold moisture to my advantage. Bark for my enviroment last3-5 days until they need to be watered. moss lasts 7-10 days.
I am busy so I like the help of moss
