VA Plants in Bloom

I posted these on another forum instead of the correct place...so here they are

Here are three photos of some plants currently in bloom. The grouping are seedlings from the same cross. The cross is (Supersuk 'Eureka' AM/AOS X Raisin Pie 'Hsinying') x sib. This gives you an idea of the variation of one of today's Maudaie-type crosses. Overall slight variation in size, color, and shape.

Out of these 25 or so seedlings, one was a true vini and the one next to it was almost all vini. A photo with both of the darker ones is shown.

The photo of the single flower is one of the better ones. I'll be keeping a few of these to grow into specimen plants but the rest will be tradebait next time they are in bud. All of these plants have been in bloom for one month, some even longer.

The toad paph in the background is (Valerie Tonkin x (Geraldine x Gridlock)). A neofinitia falcata is also in the foreground on the right. It just opened yesterday and isn't stinky yet.

Garland, thanks for the link to this page from your recent posts on the vini... Great thing about the photo you have here is it gives an indication of blooming plant size... They all look like they are still in 50mm pots!!! I wonder if I am overpotting my plants (actually I know I do overpot, 100mm pots fits the blue indoor pots better)

Yup, they were all in 2 3/4" (about 50mm) pots during the first blooming. The latest blooming sees them all in much larger 1 quart clear plastic cups. These are probably too large but I didn't have anything smaller at the time. Most of them are showing roots around and at the bottom of the pots in the water resivoir!

i *think* that i read somewhere that its touchy to bloom out small seedlings, that it could lead to an early death for the plant. obviously thats wrong? i guess it could depend on the condition of the plant in question? or maybe i didnt even really read that?

what do you think?

garland, just curious as to how well the leaf base correlates with the flower color. (especially on the near vini). it seems at least that the coloratums in front lack the dark leaf base.
