Coelogyne velutina

I bought this very healthy orchid last year from a woman who decided to live in the inner city and wouldn't have enough space for her plants. She told me that it has to be re-potted but being a beginner I didn't want to do it as it's still very healthy anyway and that I might do more harm to it than good. Well, it has sent a lot of spike mid winter and now it's blooming very nicely. It has about 17 spikes and most had opened already. I must admit though that I am not a fan of its frangrance...or more of a smell if I can describe it at that but the flowers are beautiful too, almost half the size of the coelogyne "unchained melody".

Carl, I think after the beautiful flowers are over, you should divide your plant and put in two pots. Your currently pot is already to small. I'm sure inside there is no trace of substrate.

Thanks guy and thanks Mieczyslaw for the advice, I will do that after the flowers are finished. I feel sorry for the plant too as it really looks crammed in that pot like that.

While it may need repotting, if it were me I would wait until it is active growth to repot. Some plants go into a resting period after blooming and repotting a resting plant can lead to some troubles. My rule for potting is - New shoots, New roots, New pot.
