2 weeks ago, all was going fine with the orchids growing under a shadecloth on the roof. Then one Monday afternoon while it was raining, a freak storm arrived without a warning. It lasted only few minutes but was strong enough to knock down big treees and cut off traffic for few hours. When I went up the roof after the storm, the scene was like we had been hit by a tornado. Bent aluminum supports dangled dangerously, smashed pots, broken pieces of plants litttered the area. Not a single orchid remained upright. Some of them was blown away and landed on my neighbours roof tops, some on the pavement below. Miraculously, aside from few bruises and broken new growth, most of them was unharmed.
Despite what my orchids had gone through, I am thankful that no one was hurt among my neighbours with all those debris flying around during the storm
This Den aggregatum is one of the few who suffered most. I had given up hope that this one will spike this year. It started to produce growth first and when the new growth started to grow leaves, out came the spikes, all six of them, only to be smashed by the freak storm. Just one half spike remained and not a single new growth.
I now call it Den aggrestorm.
Second pic is how it looks like last year with 4 spikes
