Question Vasco Prapin Blue pics and questions

I finally broke down and went to the flea market with Rich as the pics he sent of the vanda's talked me into it. lol Now that i've got a nice one thriving I thought i'd try again with a few full size vandas. I found two; the one with flowers has two tops, one with two spikes blooming and the other has another spike growing. I also picked up a noid...but i'm worried as the top leaf looks bad. I sprayed both down with hydrogen peroxide, but am wondering if that will be enough. Those that grow big vandas...can I use physan or the triple fungicide, bug killer stuff?? I'm really not sure what I can spray on it. Would a simple sprinkle of cinnamon on the leaves help? The roots have a lot of the black fuzzy moss and I sprayed that with the hydrogen peroxide as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

From what I can see your plants look OK. Spraying with Physan is good as a precaution against fungal rot, any way I am sure it won't do any harm if applied per instructions. The roots look very healthy and the 'fuzzy moss' doesn't harm the plant but you can use a strong spray from your garden hose to wash it off if you don't like it. My friends and I often use a cocktail of fungicide, insecticide and weak fertiliser for all our plants including vandas, which are actually very tough plants.

BTW I don't quite understand what you mean by 'the top leaf looks bad'. Any way congrats for the new acquisitions. The vasco is beautiful.

The top leaf growing up and out is brown. I looked at the top to see if a new leaf was coming up and found a bad one. I poured hydrogen peroxide right on this part as well spritzing the entire plant with it.

Whoa! Get out the sunglasses for that one in bloom. What a beautiful vibrant color. Great choice. Since I don't grow vandas i can't help you with your problem. Thanks for sharing that beautiful new addition with us.

Ah, yes, Connie now I see it. IT is crown rot, and I think you have given it the right treatment. Since the nearest leaves below it still look OK the rot might have stopped. If the rot continues to other top leaves I'm afraid you might have to cut off an in inch or two off the top until you see healthy tissue and then treat the cut with a fungicide.

Amazing healthy monsters there ! Completely agree with Yew's advice. Sincei they re hanging bare root, getting rid of fungus will be easy as they will dry out quickly. If at all the tip is dead, you will see a bunch of keikis or basal shoots soon on this plant.

I would agree with both Yew Sung and Amey. 100% right on treatment. Beautiful orchids, Connie!

    Cheers,
