what's in an orchid name

I was just kind of curious, being new to the orchid growing hobby, why the names on the plant tags can be so different? I would assume if the orchid is registered it has a name it should go by. Is this because some plants are hybrids and crossed with who knows what? Are all hybrids registered as well? I assume not.

An example of my question: I bought the paph listed below this weekend. The tag that came with the plant had the name listed as:

([Magic Flame x Cyberspace] 'Hilo Show' x Petula's Mystery 'Dark Star')

and Bruce so generously posted the name for me as:

Paph. Petula's Magic (Paph. Space Magic x Paph. Petula's Mystery)

I'm confused....how does one know if the name on the tag is the correct name if we aren't experts like a lot of you are?? Is the grower incorrect? I'd like to be able to have correct names on plants if I can

Don't usually see that written often. Generally indicates that all the flowers will not open at once. Kind of like with gladiolas in which the lower flowers open before the ones higher on the flower spike.
