Need help and advice with my Miltonia

Hope someone can help me...i brought this orchid last year and it was in a right state all dried up and looking like a dead fossel....Ive been looking after it for all this time and now it looks happy and great...I have a spot on one leaf can someone tell me what it is and what to do if its a virus or something.....need to know how to care for it to as it is very tempermental if i move it the leaves would bend and now if you see the new shoot it is going funny...So any good help and advice is trully welcomed

When i brought this one,it said it is a Miltonia but i guess it might be a Miltoniopsis ? not seen it in flower as i have said...it was all dried up and know flowers....

Your plant is a miltoniopsis. Just cut off the spot on the leaf to prevent spread. The 'corrugation' or 'pleating' on the new growth is a result of uneven/inconsistent watering. Miltoniopsis need a lot of water when in active growth. I do not grow these, but the Brazilian miltonias which I grow are similar, apart from temperature requirements.

Get rid and implement cross contamination procedures to avoid cross infection. The wrinkled leaves are termed 'accordian' and a common occurence with milts - onia/opsis/assia with watering issues.

Thank you for your advice....i will cut the spot off as you said ....watering ....it is always damp so it does not get dry...

Yes... I have two miltoniopsis- gorgeous waterfall types with that enigmatic medicinal fragrance. HOWEVER they simply refuse to reflower. (I shall be posting this as a Help! post soon myself.) Oddly, my related Burrageara always flowers its socks off. This whole group (odonts, oncs, milts etc) and others too, are prone to pleating if the watering is too uneven. I ask myself why- because they have their pseudobulbs to act as a drought-buffer but it really doesn't seem to work that way. An Epi/Enc cross I have is hugely vigorous and has enormous bulbs, but it is the most prone to pleating of all my plants! That is why I avoid this group- my conditions don't quite suit them- but when I see a big smiling Miltoniopsis, it can be hard to resist!

If I can, I try to go for tougher stuff with thicker tissues, originating from more seasonal and challenging habitats. But it would also help if I was more diligent grower!

Yes ive sort of changed my watering habbits with this one..seems to be ok and have two new shoots now..and they are not pleated..so hope they grow ok.If im not succestful with this i dont think i will buy another..but like you haha when i see the wonderful blooms i find it hard to just walk by

I would add that sulphur should be brushed onto the cut as soon as it's done. This will kill any bacteria, and prevent any bacteria from entering the cut/wound. Betty
