Papilionanthe Orchid growing habit

These things used to be known as 'terete-leaved vandas'. They are aggressive climbers, producing tonnes of aerial roots everywhere that cling tenaciously to any surface, even plastic! They take FULL SUN and lots of water and fertiliser to keep on blooming..

hi there paphioboy , I think I have this exact plant (the joaquim agnes one ) . I didn't have anywhere to put it right away since I didn't know my friend was gonna give me one , so I stuck it in a pot that something else is in (my bay leaf tree) . I have since read that it is very clingy and think I should take it out and give it it's own pot . What do you think ?I am a little on doing it since it might have a new spike coming out soon . Also what should I use a potting media and what sized pot ? It's about a foot and a half tall, give or take a few inches.

yvonni, the important thing with these is access to full sun and high humidity. I suggest taking them out of the current pot (maybe after it flowers) and giving them their own. If you are in Barbados, I assume humidity is not an issue. They can grow in charcoal, rock with a little well-drained soil containing lots of organic matter (animal manure). Tie them to a stake, that isn't too tall because they won't flower until the stems are a couple of feet high above the support. A 4-foot stake should do.

my friend got it from her grandmother's house , where it was planted in the earth in direct sun . I think she just broke it off and brought it . since I didn't have a place for it right away, it sat on a chair outside just bare , no soil, media or anything and it started to look a bit withered and then I put it in with the bay leaf now it has plumped up a lot . I do want to put it into it's own pot since I am a bit worried that it might over run my bay leaf plant which I definitely don't want . I guess we have no problem with humidity here but it's a lot cooler right now than it normally is so I'm guessing humidity is down right now . also how do you get it to expand ?

Papilionanthe are propagated by cuttings, as with other vandas..

I have this plant too.
I grow it under full afternoon sun from 12pm to 5pm with a little water under the pot for humidity
The problem is the leaves of this plant look shrivel and root looks dry.
One of the plant top leave is very soft with light green in colour.
Not sure if this plant is dying?
Hope you can advise.
