I bought this phalaenopsis for $5 in a hardware store, obviously didn't look too healthy but I thought I would try and rescue it.
Back then it had 9 leaves and 2-3 healthy roots. I put in a fresh substrate and probably watered too much.
Anyway, after a week or two I realized it was going downhill, so I took it out and there were no healthy roots left.
I tried sphag n bag for few days, but got mold every day (I soaked it in hydrogen pyroxide before), then I tried water culture for a week - everything got really brown.
Now I have decided to cut off all the rot and as you can see in the first picture there isn't much left. One of the two leaves is half yellow (2nd picture).
I soaked it in hydrogen pyroxide, put some cinammon on the place where I cut it, and then soaked the leaves only in a weak fertilizer solution. I also applied some rooting hormone.
At the moment it's in a bowl with some moist sphagnum. The bowl has tiny holes (I bought ricotta cheese in it) and everything is standing in my daughters' tiny plastic greenhouse in a warm rather darkish spot. The greenhouse has 3 vents, at the moment I left them closed. There are also holes in the bottom, so there is some air circulation.
Should I leave it alone and only keep the sphagnum moist or should I mist it/soak with fertilizer?
I know that she most likely won't make it, but I can't bear to throw it away
Thanks,
Kasia
