orchid plant id please

some of you may remember me...I work for a college with a greenhouse and an orchid collection. The folks prior to me didn't keep the orchids labelled...and so I have been working to get them ID'ed through here...been pretty successful, I think. ( after all, who can prove me wrong?)

anyway...background of them...they have been here for a long time...since 1980's or so...so the varieties are probably old. I have two varieties that are still needing identifying...one is a yellow cattleya type and the other is a lavender cattleya type...does Cattleya skinneri come in lavender? if so..that might be what this one is...

I may have to have several posts...I will try to fit them in to one if I can..

In my opinion, bot of these are hybrids, the yellow is probably a Brassavola nodosa cross and the pink would be a Brassocattleya hybrid. Apart from this, can't get much closer from me.

The yellow flower may well be Rhyncanthe Daffodil (Rhyncholaelia glauca x Guarianthe aurantiaca) (formerly Bc. Daffodil). The other appears to be a primary hybrid of Rhyncholaelia digbyana.

Yellow looks like a Richard Mueler hybrid to me.

I would not name tagless hybrids of uncertain origin. It would create confusion and if the institution gave away division it may perpetuate false IDs. Species could be identified but many hybrids look similar even if they have some different parents. Also what is labeled as Cattleya sp. is not a species but a hybrid. I can see some R. dygbiana. definitely not G. skinneri. flower looks different.

No identification is way better than false identification.

I have a Brassavola digbyana x Laelia purpurata, that looks very similar to the last plant/flower. And yours is gorgeous! I love the pink in the petals...too pretty!

Connie - I have the same - not bloomed yet but growing a lot. it was in a bag from a home improvement store. I lost the tag. I wonder if you have teh same and could email me what is written on the tag. I can see that one lip like R. digbyana and the rest as C. purpurata.

The yellow looks like a glauca hybrid to me. Does it have a lot of substance?
I could swear I've seen one like the second somewhere, but the name eludes me. Digbyana close up anyhow.

thank you for all the replies....I appreciate all the suggestions. For the person who's worried about false ID...I do make sure to research the "time frame" of the choices....these orchids have been here for a relatively long time, with only recent ( named) specimens added by me in the last couple of years.

the varieties have to be have been around in the late 70's-80's to be in this collection....

If they do consider giving them away, perhaps I can indicate on the tag that the id is "suggested" not definite....

(so far, they have not considered giving them away....although I am kind of urging that, since our space does not grow as fast as the orchids can !)
