    Cool Cattlianthe Bactia 'Grape Wax'

I bought this last year and this is my second blooming. I'm not sure what happened, we did have a few cool days a week or two ago, but I don't remember seeing a cattleya do this. One spike is all dark pinks, maroon, etc, while the second spike has nearly white side lobes that wrap around the column. There is some pink, but it is very pale. The first spike never looked like this, so it's not a color change thing. The only thing I can think of is we had a few days in the 80's and maybe the temp. change caused the difference in color.

I'm very happy with this blooming; 8 flowers on one spike and 6 on the other...14 flowers between two spikes makes me very happy!

This one is a really beautiful and gorgeous looking hybrid. You have grown it excellently Connie. I have been on a look out for one since you posted it last year. The color change can be due to the temperature or simply due to variable gene expression in this hybrid. The white ones more like the guttata parent.

I don't know what causes that but the plant is beautiful with lots of nice flowers. Good growing.
