Please help save my Orchid from my black thumb

I have a moth orchid- it was a housewarming gift when I moved into my new apartment. I fear I must have a black thumb, because it isn't looking too good. That, and I also killed a rosemary plant, which everyone assured me wouldn't be possible...but that's neither here nor there.
The orchid itself isn't yellow and there doesn't appear to be any visible mold, at least above the soil. The flowers fell off, though, and the end of the stem was drying out and yellowing. I ended up cutting it, though the stem is still quite long. The leaves are limp, and I've sort of been afraid to do anything with it. Is there a way to save it? What should I do?? Post a few pictures. Sounds like it needs water, but a picture would help quite a bit. How often do you water it? What does the potting media consist of?
