Surprised by Oncidium in spike! and a questions...

I bought this Oncidium 'Dancing Lady' and found out its roots were... dead! anyway, I did what I thought would be the best. I repotted in bark mix and covered it with a plastic bag for a few months and it started growing, yay!
It's been one year and three months since I bought it and it has 3 more pseudobulbs. I thought it was not gonna bloom for me after I saw the first two go without any spikes. when the 3rd came I thought it was time to repot it since it's 'floating' out of the pot, but... OMG! it has a spike! so I'm gonna need to wait until it finishes blooming right??? I waited too long.
I read (somewhere!) that you don't water while the spike it's growing. Is that right???
Anyway, here you have a pic from the day I bought it, and one I took a few days ago. The spike it's a lot bigger now! Thank you guys!

Gabriel, that is one wonderful recovery you can take a lot of credit for. This Oncidium looks like it is very healthy and the pseudo-bulbs look so plump. I woukd water as per your usual routine. Some people withhold fertilizer when in spike/bud/flower. I am not one of these. As someone said and I tend to agree; "it's like being pregnant when a orchids setting up to bloom". I am sure others will in time chime in on this subject for you. Congratulations on the spike! AL

I would continue watering but as to fertilising I would avoid fertiliser on the buds if I had to continue fertilising.

Hi guys! I've been kind of busy but I had to show you my Orchid in bloom. The first flower opened in september the 14th and right now all of them are open and looking very pretty!

I know it's not as exotic as lots of the ones I've seen from some of you, but this is the second orchid plant that has bloomed for me after I bought it and transplanted. Btw. I have transplanted a couple of very big ones and I can see new roots forming. 2 other ones have started growing a new leaf and new roots after one whole year! so I hope they bloom next year. yaay!
Ok, on this picture I want to ask you all. I put some decorative window film (rice paper from 'artscapes') to block some of the sun it gets from a west facing window. Now, is this ok?? or it needs direct sunlight? If it's been ok I don't want to mess with the light, but I think it gets good light most of the day. what do you think? is there anybody else doing something like this with windows?

That is a beautiful spray of flowers Gabriel. As to the rice papered window Oncidium's don't really take to direct sun, so your probably doing the right thing. They tend towards bright, indirect light. Enjoy the blooms! AL
