Anyone grow Cymbidiums?

Just was wondering Who out there has a cymbidium. Was reading about them they don't sound difficult to take care of and I'm really interested in obtaining one for my collection.. Any tips would be appreciated. Also I read there are large and small . Do the large get big like a large cattleya, and how small is a small ? Thank you my orchid friends

I grow a few heat-tolerant cymbidiums and these would be considered 'small' types as they are grown in 8" pots. But these may not be suitable if you live in a cool temperate country. Can't really give any tips as you haven't told us where you live.

I live in Pennsylvania and it is currently snowing with a temperature of 19 degrees. One of the warmest days this week. I grow both regular and warm growing cymbidiums and am finally have luck with them. They do get to be tall and large plants. They are easy to grow if, like with any orchid, they receive the proper care. They need LOTS of light. In the summer mine get full sun outdoors. In the winter they are grown by a glass door that has a southeast exposure and several fluorescent lights above them. This year I must have the lighting right in that I have had very little bud drop. They need more water than most orchids and they also need a cool period to set bud. Mine go outside in May and are not brought back in until the end of October or when I hear that there are going to be temperatures below 30 degrees. They are a beautiful orchid and are well worth the extra work to get them to bloom. Perhaps you should consider buying a NOID to try. Usually from now until Easter the big box stores and grocery stores have them from $20 to $40. The blooms last for months and even if you find you can't re-bloom them you get your money's worth. Just remember they do take up space especially the large showy ones. Good luck! I am sure if I can have luck with them you will also. You never know until u try.

i've got 2 from my husband last year.they both are big .i pot them up in a white plastic pot with big hold around for drainage and leave them outside.this winter in los angeles drop to 40F,2stems came out and i leave them for vacation.

yesterday after i came back i found one of stem has a lot of buds,that meant they can survive from the cold in my situation.i'm going to show the picture to you later
