    Default Phragmipedium Red Lightning

    Hi y'all -

    This is really my first foray into what I call the "droopy drawers" phrags. There are phrags with far longer petals than this one, but the color here is pretty good - some clear, strong reds, yellows, and green - not too muddy at all. I've become very fond of it - funny how one's taste changes as time goes on and so much more knowledge and experience are gained.

    Anyway, this is Phrag. Red Lightning, which is a primary hybrid of Phrag. sargentianum x Phrag warszewiczii. I have it in intermediate light, about 72F (can't get it much cooler at night in the living room), 70% humidity, and I keep it quite damp, but it drains well, and I flush it with fresh water frequently. It's not in S/H yet, but it's headed there when I have a chance.

    Beautiful! That last photograph of the entire plant is excellent. That picture could be on the cover of Orchids Digest.

    it's your false Maura that make me fell in love and go to the world of Phrag .i love the last picture ,perfect contrast between the flower and the greenish leaf.

    It's beautiful Maura! And thanks for the "y'all"! Being a displaced southerner with reservations for two at a restaurant serving deviled eggs as a starter and fried chicken entrees ya got me excited!
