Hi guys and gals!!
So, I've got a few orchids currently in bloom, but I am now wondering what to do when they drop. I know that I have to cut the spikes, but where do I cut them?? I have 2 phals and 2 onc alliance...thanks!

Hi guys and gals!!

It depends on what happens to the spikes after blooming, if they turn brown the only choice is to cut it as close to the base as you can. If the phal. spike stays green you might want to cut it just above the third nodule, I have cut it above the bottom nodule and have had the same success. I personally do not seek additional blooms any longer, they usually aren't as large and the spike in my opinion isn't that attractive,However that being said it certainly is worth the experience of re-blooming your phal.As far as you oncididium I would cut the spike since I'm quite sure they will not re-bloom. Also what ever your decision make sure you sanitize what ever you use to cut spikes, I hope this helps you . Hank......
Thank you! I think I will cut all of them off...they've had a rough winter and need time to grow! Thank you again Hank!
