Group shot of orchids in the only greenhouse I could find in Anchorage, AK

I figured this was the best place to put these photos. This was the only place that I could find orchids in Anchorage besides the big outlet stores. I heard that there is one other greenhouse that has an even smaller selection, but I was just happy to see some beautiful colors and to smell some catts after the long dreary winter. I also have to say that it was quite an experience to show up there (I snow shoed about 6 miles to get there. I could have driven, but it was Alaska!) with it being about 2° outside and 85° inside!

For a moment I thought you were showing shots from a Florida greenhouse and couldn't figure out how they managed to keep alive -- let along bloom -- a Miltonopsis.

At that greenhouse there they mainly had small vegetable and fruit trees for growing inside. As I understood it, for their heating they were using geothermal radiant heat in the greenhouse. It was a very cool setup as far as things go. And all of their plants they ordered from Hawaii, and they would all come in spike. They had a rather large section of past bloom plants and at the time if I had been planning on staying in AK a longer I would have definitely bought some of them.
