First blooming for this plant that I purchased as a dormant bulb back in February. Very pleased with the four blooms with which I've been rewarded.

Have been growing orchids for two years and this is the first successful blooming of this group. These do have both male and female flowers but, if I understand correctly, the female flower occurs when the growing conditions are optimal (these are the male flowers). Cycnoches require a rest period with no watering once the leaves drop and no resumption until after significant new root growth occurs in the spring. Didn't water this one until first week of May when the new roots were approx. 2-3 inches in length. Patience isn't one of my strong points and I was hard pressed not to water earlier but saw posts from several of the more experienced growers telling me not to water too early but then water heavily once the roots are developed. Growing indoors near a window with a small lamp for supplemental lighting in order to try and meet the light requirements (cattleya level).
Love the flower but too much work for me, mainly the patience part. Nice job, very rewarding.
Lovely.
Beautiful. Bravo.
Well done!
