My new mini Phal

[Carolla]

I found this darling little Mini Phal (peloric I think) in a grocery store! I had to take it out of its totally soaked sphagnum moss and give it some air, but it seems a sturdy little thing and has good roots. The whole plant is tiny, its in about a 3" pot and the leaves are about 3" long. Totally about 6" including the flowers. The middle picture is the best representation of the color. It's got two spikes.

Lovely mini phals and I like the peloric in these one congrats for having unusual stuff.

I was shocked to see such an interesting little flower in a plain old grocery store! They had other minis that were cute, but nothing like this one. Strangely, I had to have it! lol

I normally don't fancy pelorics but this one is very cute - the shape reminds me of a Lycaste. I like this one.

we seem to be getting a lot of these fully peloric types on the west coast in supermarkets. i love them. i just bought a huge red one, but i like these minis.

Living the east coast I have never seen one of these sold in nurseries or the supermarket... Lovely and strange looking blooms though.

Awesome, if they are turning up on CA, and I got this one in Seattle, they ought to move their way over to the Spokane area sometime soon too! I am seeing more orchids with actual names in the big box stores too, a pleasant change. I found a Phal with a name recently that was out of bloom and half price... there were a couple left in bloom and I liked them, so bought the cheaper one. Turned out its spike was broken, not done, and its branching out another spike! I'll have more pictures when that blooms! Also a couple of my NOID Phals are sending up spikes too. Makes me happy!

there were a bunch of red ones like mine, but not peloric, just this one. but there were 2 other pelorics there in other shades, i have bought 5 now in different colors since summer. this new one has 3 spikes. i have been seeing them sort of regularly at one particular market, and sometimes at a second. they must be repotted immediately, as they come in boxes/etc with a plastic lining and can be sitting in water inside. i wonder what is causing them to have so many pelorics? are they always growing some percentage, but not been sold so often before? or is this a new development? are my beautiful mutants really victims of a mad-orchidist somewhere like those bad dye-jobs? the cool thing is now orchids can be a healthy part of my grocery budget!

Yeah, you won't gain much weight on them! lol I'll be keeping my eyes open, though I keep telling myself that I am getting low on room. I like the odd and unusual. I pretty much re-pot Phals as soon as I get them home, they come in such a mess usually.

My little guy is small enough to sit on the corner of my placemat on the table while its in bloom. I won't have any trouble tucking it in somewhere in my collection. Fortunately some of my older Phals are sending up spikes, maybe I can keep from buying something while they bloom!
