Growing a Phal without medium

I had a grocery store Phal that wasn't doing well so decided to experiment with it by mounting it onto a board and misting it daily. It did not work and it died. I thought maybe I was misting it too frequently but do you know if Phals have ever been grown in such a way?

Pals grow in thier natural habitat as mounted, what board did you use?. You should have padded the roots with some moss to retain moisture.

Mounted all of my phals last year, place them all upside down so that water never has a chance to collect in the head of the plant. I uses sphagnum up against the cypress boards and then covered the roots also with sphagnum and they are all doing well and bloomed for me this past February, so it can be done.

I have also seen phals with no medium mounted and as long as they get watered everyday, at least here in South Florida, they have also done well.
