I have put the old ( better known) name in brackets.
There is a tale to tell about this plant. I bought it from a well known and usually reliable dealer under the name Zdg Calico Gem 'Green Valley' , thinking that Zdg must be the abbreviation for that intergeneric genus based on Zygopetallum , but which managed to get apple green into the flowers by breeding with a plant which used to be called Neogardneria - since changed to a new genus beginning with a letter Z. When it flowered I could see it was no Zygo, and checked out what Calico Gem is and should look like ( Orchidwiz, of course) and found that the real Zdg Calico Gem is an oncidium intergeneric with a nearly round flower, all pink brocade-like. So that was clearly wrong too.
I started to do a post calling it a NOID, then it started to dawn on me what the proper name is - a plant on my wish list for years. I have even bought examples of it once or twice but failed to succeed with them , but the plant shown above has been growing happily for a year now , and looks likely to double the number of new growths ( up to 4 ) when the flowers are over.
So I have given it a varietal name - having been in rural France for a couple of weeks, with my head full of their language , I call it Epidendrum prismatocarpum 'Bonne Chance'.
