Default Advice for tying an orchid onto a wood plank

I have recently trimmed all dead roots off my gilded maze. Well they'res barely any roots now, so the plant is top heavy. It's still growing nicely new roots and leaves . I am wanting to tie it to a wood plank since it's having a hard time staying in a pot, given no girth in roots.

What type of wood is recommended for this?

Any other advice is welcome, as well!

You might have a hard time keeping it watered on a plank. In the Texas summer I think you're looking at watering 2-3 times a day and if you miss a day its bye-bye orchid. Tree fern might be a better option or take a look at Karin's (sciencegal) posts on water culture. That may be an option.

I managed to find a slate of cedar. I hot glued some green ties and put some Sphagum moss around the base. Hopefully I can post a pic of what I've done!

Cedar is the best choice as far as I'm concerned. Especially a piece shaped like an old chert arrow head! Whenever you mount try to place your plant so that new growth and roots are toward your mount. Tricky without crushing them but it is best. I might have placed it a little closer to the center of the wood.

Looks nice, I've actually just started mounted mine to a piece of driftwood too.
