Hi
I have 3 phal 1 zygo hybrid. I have a hydroponic fertilizer. ( marijuana is legal in my state) on the bottle it has mixing directions for orchids and African violets. It contains nitrogen, phosphate, potash, calcium, magnesium, sulfer, boron, chlorine, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, finally zinc. I've been using this now for several weeks every time I water. Is this good? Do my orchids need more minerals? I'm always reading that orchids in general need minerals. Please lead me in the right direction. I forgot to mention the fertilizer is organic 7-4-10 thank you for taking the time to read this I appreciate and value your knowledge and feedback....B

I'm sure it's fine, but you need to be mindful of the interaction between amount used and frequency of application.

I know it's a false measure (equating a concentration with an amount), but I like to shoot for about "50-75 ppm N" applied over the course of a week.

For example, in my greenhouse I fed and watered about three times a week, so used a fertilizer concentration of 25 ppm N. If I fed only once a week on average, I'd probably double the concentration.

Fortunately, there's a pretty easy way to estimate usage to approximate ppm N:

Divide 2 by the %N on the product label. The result is teaspoons per gallon for 25 ppm N. Divide 4 by %N for 50 ppm N, etc. For folks on the metric system, dividing 2.3 by the %N gives ml/L for 25 ppm N, and so on.
