Vanda Cherry Blossom 'Pink Bouquet'

Hi guys,
I recieved a miniature vanda this week that I've been waiting on forever I've been playing with ideas on how to keep this one alive. My main problem is humidity. I live in the mountains, so keeping a high humidity level is impossible, and I've had limited results with humidity trays in my home. I do have a fair-sized terrarium with an open top though, and I was considering hanging this miniature vanda inside with pebbles and water in the bottom (possibly mounting the vanda on a small piece of bark). Do you think this might work for her? I'm also hoping that the terrarium will offer heightened temps. What do you think? I'll post a pic of the plant, but once again, its almost dusk here so the pics are too dark. I'll have to take some better ones tomorrow. thanks for your help.

She will need a lot of light if you put her in the terrarium. She is really cute and healthy with all the roots!

Very pretty what is your average humidity ? if 50% roughly it would be fine if you water until the roots are bright green , if very dry 2 times a day . How about an ultra sonic cool mist humidifier ? I would worry about lack of air flow in a Terr. Damp and still = fungus or rot .
My Vandas get around 50% ,watered in the am . and do fine.

I'm not sure what my humidity is. Based on what happened with my last vanda (it was one of the four fatalities I had while acquiring the orchid addiction), misting twice a day and giving it a full drink every other morning...wasn't enough. Right now I've fashioned this vanda to hang inside the terrarium but not touch anything. I have rocks and water in the bottom, and tomorrow I'm going to attach a small fan to the rim and circulate the air (the roots are already very green). I also have the whole sh-bang in a bright spot in the window. I'm hoping that everything will come together and make a humid, but airy enviornment for this little girl. I'll try to post pictures tomorrow of the whole contraption. I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried such a thing

If grown in a dry low humidity area they need to be dunked/ watered not misted daily , water/dunk let sit until the roots turn light then redo it . Your idea should work . Gin

Hi everyone,
I'll go ahead and apologize, I'll be all over these boards today as I have lots of new growth happening with all my orchids. But I'll start here. I thought I'd post a pic or two of my vanda in the terrarium. So far it seems to like it, though I still have to take it out and dunk it in water frequently. I haven't fashioned a fan for the terrarium yet. Perhaps I'll do that today. sorry about the picture quality.

Nice Wardian Case!!!! Well I can safely add you Vanda to my list of wants. You should mount it on a piece of wood for asthetics.
Since you wont have any plants growing on the bottom you can just keep it wet with expanded clay balls or something similar on top. Now all you need is a stong light source and a fan. When you put the fan, make sure it doesnt blow dry air in.

yes...thank you!! she's happy as far as i can tell. the fan is a little number from an old computer. i've figured out how to mount it, but i haven't figured out the power source to my liking. i took a measurment inside the terrarium yesterday and it read 72% humidity compared to the 65% measured outside. I hope that's enough difference to make her happy.

You could always put in some bowls of water or have the bottom of the enclusure act like a big water tray.
