Spike of death.

The first(1 of 2)Phals i first bought decided to spike throuth the crown & i thought it was a gonner.It has bloomed fantastically for me & put on a real show every blooming.Last year it had 23 flowers on a re-bloom(spike was cut & it brached )
This year 2 spikes that branched & more flowers.

You can see the spike coming from the centre.
It has been in full bloom for over 2 months but has dropped a few flowers this last week with high temps.
Noticed this last week & was not sure what it was but now i,m sure.

A new leaf.
Guess i got lucky & the spike missed the growing point.
Plant has been in s/h for over 2 years & i would have missed it.

I wasnt aware that this sort of thing could happen. Who would have thought that a spike could bloke new leaf growths and therefore send the plant to its own death? Im glad your plant got lucky.

Boy they really can surprise you when they come up with their own ideas on what to do, and clearly haven't read the book!
