Phragmipedium wallisii PHOTOS

My Phrag wallisii plants are in spike and in bloom again. It is a beautiful multifloral long petalled species, a little easier to grow than the larger caudatum cousin. It also grows a little quicker than the caudatum. Like the caudatum, it can easily get bacterial rot during hot summer days if not enough air movement is provided.

Well, I'm still blown away by how you light these so well with natural light. You're not using spots of any kind? I just don't get it... But, whether I get it or not, regardless: extremely nice work.

Thanks! No, I do not use any artificial lights or any spotlights, just natural lighting. I prefer natural lighting because it's the best lighting and best of all, it's free!

How do you get the spotlit, downlight effect with everything else so dramatically shaded?

The downlight effect or spotlit effect is natural light coming in from a very bright window. I make sure the plant is placed in bright shade so the photo doesn't appear too washed out. It took me quite sometime to learn on my own and I'm still learning.

Hey Pete, I just found a couple of pics of these over at Antec that I actually really liked! The pouch is pinker than on yours (more the color of the petals), so the white/chartreusy contrast that we discussed me not liking so much the other day is less evident.

Anyway, thought you might be curious to hear that...

Thanks, Heather! Does that mean you're getting a wallisii? Don't be fooled with the colors. Different lighting, conditions can affect colors, right?

Remembr, I told you that I didn't like Phrags in the beginning? Well, guess what? Phrag wallisii was my first batch of Phrags I bought!

and NO, I am not getting a wallisii, yet. You're going to have to do a bit more to talk me into that one. Besides, I have bought 2 paphs and two phrags in what, the last 10 days? 2 of which I would not have purchased w/ out a little help from you-know-who... so just reign it in there.

Heather, it looks exactly like mine but I'm color deficient, so that doesn't mean anything. I know you prefer the warsce., don't you? I already know where you're getting yours from. Good choice, too!
