which Paph. is this??

I just bought this paph from a local grower, he called it Callosum Jack, and that is also what the tag says. I did an image search on google and got only one picture.. Hardly got any info from just doing a web search.

Does anyone know if this guy has another name? and who his parents are?

There is a well known plant paph callosum 'Jack', however, it does not look like yours - but it could have been a parent. could be a cross with some charlesworthii based on the colors.

I, however, LOVE that bloom!! Did the vendor have any more?? Please PM me with his contact information. Love that color combo...

Unless that's an unregistered name, it's mislabled. There is no registered name "callosum anything". There is an awarded cultivar of callosum 'JAC', but Diane's right - it's not your guy. There's no Paph. Jack either. I was thinking it might be a cross between callosum and Jack. But no.

Well I not planning on breeding Paphs in the near future (the dark period and so...) so it doesn't really matter, I'll just enjoy the looks!
Btw. there is another developing bud on it - just hidden behind the leaf

Hi Christian,

I just searched on Paph. callosum 'Jack' and I came up with a UK site that sells a very dark vinicolored Paph under that name. Not the same as yours, and also not a Paph. callosum. The retailer you purchased it from probably has no way of knowing the name is incorrect. But a Paph. callosum has downward sweeping petals - usually more than 45 degrees below horlizontal, and yours are horizontal.

Yours is lovely though, and even if the name isn't correct you can still enjoy its beauty!

Hi Christian,

I would say that your beautiful plant may well be a cross between Paphiopedilum callosum 'Jac' x Paphiopedilum charlesworthii. This hybrid is called Paphiopedilum Rosita.

The charlesworthii parent is very easy to see... in fact the color and stance of the petals would be from this parent.

The influence of callosum is a little less apparent... but the mottled leaves, the slight twist on the top of the dorsal would be this paren't influence....
Also, same tell tale sign that this plant that is not wholly charlesworthii (it has plain green leaves)

so, as everyone said... you've got yourself a BEAUTY!!!

I'm not sure you would be able to tell conclusively. It most likely is charlesworthii mixed in with some "Maudiae-type" species or hybrid. A very nice example too, with unusually strong charlesworthii influence.

That's also what I've been thinking.. It's almost identical to Charlesworthii except from the mottled leaves.
Well it doesn't matter much - at least I'm sure about one of the parents, that's better than none
