Phal x intermedia is a naturally occurring hybrid that's what the x before the species/hybrid name indicates between Phal equestris and Phal aphrodite.
Naturally occurring hybrids are unusual enough that taxonomists let the hybrid name be spelled lower case, like a species name would appear. The x that precedes it indicates it's a natural hybrid.
It's a beaut, Nelson! My Phal aphrodite is blooming. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll snap a picture.
