Mounting orchids and what to do in the future

I love mounted orchids. I have 6 of them. One is mounted on a small piece of tree fern and the others are mounted to branches. They are all doing fine but I am not sure what to do with them in the future when they outgrow thier mounts. I can't imagin that it is possible to remove the one from the tree fern without destroying most of the roots. a few on branches have grown roots into every crack and crevice in the branch. How have some of you handled this situation when your orchids outgrow thier mounts?

I dont bother trying to replace the mount.
Options are :-
1) turn the mount the other way up
2) tie the small mount on to a larger mount
3) divide plant and sell divisions

We were at a club meeting where a member was showing his quite impressive b. nodosa. At some point he mentioned that somewhere inside that ball of roots was the original 4 x 4 mount, never to be seen again. His plan, since the mount is only a way to secure a small plant, was to just let it keep growing and not worry about a new mount.
