Maxillaria tenuifolia - update

Here are some updated pictures of the Maxillaria tenuifolia in bloom.

Interesting thing is that the mother plant and all four smaller divisions bloomed at the same time.
I only have pictures of the mother plant right now. The divisions look the same, only so much smaller





The greenhouse smells like a coconut cake bakery.

Fantastic growing! my little seedling of this is now putting up 3 new growths so I am a happy camper. I hope one day it performs as well as yours. thank you for sharing it with us and I am hoping for that wonderful coconut scent on mine. My seedling is a tenuifolia 'red'

mine produces many babies but some bulb's are shriveling, lack of water?

I know I sound like a broken record but mine is getting really (REALLY) big, just repotted it it in a 7" pot.
It's sending out a lot of new growths and not blooming, never did ...
Lucky for me that I like the way the foliage look!
What is the secret?

When you say babies, do you mean divisions that you removed from the mother plant? or just new pseudobulbs still growing on the main plant?

I found that with divisions, the top most pseudobulbs will tend to shrivel and die out as the plant produces new growths near the base of the plant.
I guess the plant is just reestablishing itself.

If the shriveling pseudobulbs are on the main plant, then it could indicate lack of watering or humidity.

Abundant foliage growth and no blooms is a very good indication that the plant is not getting enough light.
I grow my maxillarias in high light, same light as the cattleyas are getting (4000-5000fc).

i meant the pseudobulbs on the main plant, sorry.
they dont totally shrivel, but more than the new one on the base, so i guess its normal, was just worrying.
and you said you treat em like your cattleya's? wow, thats a lot of light, mine is hanging on the upper part of the awning, maybe not enough light then or too hot.
i have my cattleyas out in full sunlight, dont think it would be a good idea for my max, or would they stand it?

sorry for so many questions, its just my first max and i know those arent easy, so i give it my best shot.
