Root rot...

What happens if a phal. loses all of its leaves due to root rot? The strange thing is, it HAD root rot. I got rid of the bad ones long ago and its growing many healthy arial roots...the leaves just won't stop wrinkling and dying, one by one. So there's no stopping it, it will eventually lose all of its leaves and seems to refuse to grow a new one. It spiked but the buds recently blasted. Is there no saving it?

Does it have any leaves left? If not I would suggest giving it a proper burial, once the top middle leaf is gone you are done. If it is dropping them from the bottom up and there are still one or two left, you may be okay, it may be in survival mode. When you have a plant with root rot, or that is clearly in distress/dying mode, you should cut the flowering spike to help the plant save it's energy for living. Do you have a recent pic of it?

It sounds like the root rot got it , the plant needs enough root to support the leaves if there were not enough roots the leaves drop , or the rot has become systemic( inside the plant) . I would give it a burial , and buy a new one .. Gin

My phal still had two leaves but I just couldn't stop the rot, it eventually was buried. I hope you can save it, never give up if it has at least a leaf and a root. These buggers can be quite strong.
I will never to a sphag-n-bag again, rather just mount it to some damp sphag upside down and keep on misting it.

My thing is to rescue orchids. So I'd say to you never give up until the last root has died and no leaves remain. To prove my point, the first pic. is of a Phal. with center stem rot. The only cure I know of is to toss it. The second pic is the same Phal after I cut away most of the center stem and gave it a lot of tlc.
As you can see it is growing from the side of the old stem and doing very well. I rescued this a year ago from a home imp. store. I got 30 chids for $30. They were going to toss them. I'm sure they will reward me in the future with beautiful blooms. So my advice to you is hang in there until the bitter end!

NEVER give up!!
I've had phals that were "dead", but after awhile.... there's a leaf!!!
I keep everything until I know there is no chance of it coming back... still has roots? save it, you never know.....
