Scale and Murphy's Oil Soap

I read in book Orchids Through Our Eyes, that you can use Murphy's Oil Soap on orchids. It says follow directions and spray on. There are 2 dilutions for this soap 1/4 c per gallon and 1/2 cup per gallon. Which do I use? Can anyone tell me? Do you leave it on? How often do you use? I have one L purparata ' Schuster ' seedling with it.

That's what I believe it to mean. The book says this home remedy is for those that are nervous about pesticides. Anyway, I haven't gotten a response yet on this so, I went ahead and used 1/2 c per gallon of water and sprayed my orchid. I still would like the forum people that recommended this to enter in on this.

Just got home...so did not get your question till just now. I think you did what I would have done. I would leave it on. It will smother the mealy bugs and light scale attacking your plant. The residue will discourage other insects from appearing. Repeat every couple of weeks until the pests do not return.

I imagine it is like using fine horticultural with some soak as a surfactant.
