Temperature Concerns

Hola everyone!
So I'm worried about temperatures in my new house. Before, my orchids were in my living room, so I could monitor their temps much like I monitored my own. But now my orchids live on a glassed-in sun porch that is separated from my living space. The porch gets much colder at night, though I haven't seen it get below freezing yet. I'm mainly worried about my Brassia's. What would you guys suggest as a suitable temperature range for two very established Brassias? One is a tacoma rex and one is a sakata rex. And what would be suitable temperatures for about 8 catts? If temps dip below 40 at night, will they be ok? The porch faces west, so the temps dramatically increase in the afternoons, but those chilly nights have me worried. In about two days, the carolina mountains will have their first stint of winter weather, high temperatures for the week will be 42 degrees. Lows in the low twenties. Should they come in? (I have phals out there as well) Thansk for your input.

Kitty, as a general rule concerning temps for the plants you mentioned, keep them at 45 degrees and warmer. If the temps are going below 45 or will remain at 45 for any extended length of time, you had better add a heater or move them inside. You might consider an electric radiator (oil heater). They are fairly economical and heat really well with a built in thermostat. You could set it at say 50 and it would turn on only when it drops below that temp. You would also need to make sure plants closer to the windows will get plenty of the heat. As you know it is colder, closer to the windows.
