This leaf came out of the crown this way. The new little leaf emerging is deformed also. I have looked for snails and don't see any. Could I still have one or what is going on?

Something has been snacking on your plant , Not crown rot , could be a slug , snail , grasshopper . or worm of some type , I would submerge the pot in water with a dash of soap to see if anything crawls out , the chewed edges look healed was it outside this summer ? Gin
I rescued a plant that looked exactly like that. Set a penny or a piece of copper on top of the potting medium....in a few days you'll find a pile of goo that used to be a slug or snail. It works like magic....I have a penny in every pot to ward them off. I know this works because I did it and sure enough a few mornings later there lay a pile of icky looking goo with two dark dots. Not a single eaten leaf since.

Yes, I agree. Something has been having an orchid snack. Time to get 'em back!
