Birds eye view inside my greenhouse.

I have spent the last two days up in the top of my greenhouse, removing the old fans - two 5 ft (1.5m) sweep fans, and fitting new ones,including completely rewiring so as to give me reverse facilkiy as well as variable speed. The oild ones have been running about 10 years, non-stop, 24/7 , and were showing signs of wear, running slow, and with rather badly rusted suspension brackets which made me fear that the lot would come crashing down abd wreak havoc on my plants.
Whilst up there I thought I would do some new phots from this novel viewpoint - as seen here.
The wooden strip seen in the bottom two pics carries the light track, which the lamps ( used from October to March to supplement natural light) run along , too and fro, and the fans are entirely above this strip. The chains suspending the strip have to be clear of the fan blades.
I won't comment on the plants individyally, some but not all of the Vndas which are prominent at this height, have been seen - except for the very dark blue, which is V. Pacharas Delight "Midnight Magic".

BTW the panes of glass are all 1.5m x .5m ( 60 inches x 20 inches).

Here's a pic of one flower - going over now. The odd skin color is because I wear latex gloves when watering etc , and I have them on here.
I bought the plant at the London Show 4 weeks ago , and although the stunning color made it attractive, the dealer was asking a very high price. ( three figures - Pounds sterling) I haggled it down to the same number of dollars ( a 40% reduction) mainly on the basis of a damaged leaf, and a flower spike starting to go over.
the odd thing is that in the pic here I can see the veins and even faint tesselation - in the actual flower I can't , the colour is more solid.The explanation as always is that the camera can "see" a particular spectrum of light, and we can see a different spectrum. Another example of this is if one uses infra-red film, then some lines appear on what we see as white flowers - some butterflies can see infra red, and use those lines as a guide to lead them to the nectar ( e.g. in Angraecum sesquipedale). I think it must be the same kind of thing with these Vanda flowers.
I hope to show you a complete spike of perfect flowers before too long, but it hasn't started growing yet.

Geoff it is actually the other way round, the camera sees the complete spectrum, but our eyes respond more to the red and green end of the spectrums, mostly green, hence the commercial lighting available is either warm white 2700 Kelvin (orange red) or 6500 K (green colour), it is an interplay between the color temperature and the color rendering index (CRI). Plants prefer a light 5450 K and a CRI above 90%. Something I learnt while growing aquarium plants, Nothing goes waste.

Nice and uncommon view of the greenhouse. No wonder your vandas are doing so well as it looks so airy and sunny up there.BTW love that Pachara Delight, excellent shape and colour ( I know it's almost impossible to get the blues and violet right on digital cameras - didn't use to have the problem with film).

In UK we have a wild flower we call "bluebell" - Hyacinthus non-scriptus or something like that. In some woods it carpets the ground and turns it an incrediuble sheet of blue... that was impossinle to capture on film - and difficult too with digital, but a bt of fiddling with photoshop gets it almost right. Something to do with infra-red again.
