this would probably be the longest named orchid I have.. and as usual the flowers are on the smallish side..
Pleurothallis phalangifera
and for something less sinister looking... the glamour shot.
Pleurothallis phalangifera is a South American species found in the mountains of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezueala. It is a cool growing species... well it better be coz it grows just out in my backyard where we experience single digit temperatures (oh that would be celsius)! Medium light, ie less than Cattleya light, but more than Phalaenopsis light.
The plant stands at around 10 cm tall and looks like a green skewer topped off by a single heart shaped leaf. Where the leaf joins the skewer is where the flower's inflorescence comes from (i guess similar to Cattleyas).
