Anyone have an idea why the leave yellowed and dried so quickly (1 week)? This is my first Masd. so I'm not really sure if I did something wrong.

IT looks like it is potted in pure spag! I would put it into a fine bark mix with a couple of peanuts in the bottom of the container. It looks like it is staying too wet.

I've since ripped it out and here's what the poor roots look like. I've potted it a smaller pot and in paph mix (fine bark / perlite / charcoal / chopped sphag) I've only had it for a week so it's not like I killed the roots, there just weren't any to begin with. You think I should be checking with the grower if these are normal practices? It's my first masdie so I don't want to lose it.
The plant looks okay for the most part. I bet with the new mix it will be fine. I cannot tell from the photo how many good roots are there, but if there are a few good roots you can probably save it.

Make sure it is not in a draft at all, I had one of my masdies in the kitchen by the back door and its leaves yellowed and fell off, since I moved it ,it has not lost any more leaves.
Richard, I don't know anything about masdies and can't help... I just wanted to wish you good luck!
Hi Richard
What is it for a Masdevallia ?
They are different in cultivation .
Sphagnum is okay ,but not to wet .Wet for ironing ,(I don´t know this word in english ? )is okay and never dry out .
Some Masden should be cool and some are warm in cultivation ,but all shady .
High humidity is essential .
I hope it can help you ?
I can help with the German-English transfer if you like....
My masdevallia get very upset if the air around them is stale. I keep them near the fan so their foliage is always has some movement. They grow like weeds this way but you do have to water more.
It's an Ahlenberger Vollmond which is strobelii x schroederiana and I was told that it's one that likes medium temperatures.
I repotted in paph mix (fine bark / perlite / charcoal / chopped sphag) and it's hit with a fan for about 6-7 hours a day.
I think there are about 3-4 good/okay roots left.
I didn't want to clean the middle too much since I don't even know how the leaves are held together, do they have a tiny rhizome or something like that?
