Some memories of Chiengmai

Just to post some pictures of Chiengmai,Thailand. Only one is orchid-related.
Went with sis-in-law and her husband from Melbourne.That's why no visits to orchid nurseries and vendors.

#1 The temple at Doi Suthep - showing the famous golden stupa.
#2 My wife[in front and her sis and husband]in the temple grounds. The orchids have been donated by the faithful.

I love the picture of the lady weaving the pretty basket. It looks almost like tatting, but with much thicker strings. That would be a centerpiece on one of my tables. The lovely building up top looks like something on a postcard! Thank You for the pictures, I could look at those all day! I would so love to travel and see these for myself. Even the phals in the background look amazing....

lol What ever we call what she is doing...I love the pretty design and the bowl. I have a special appreciation for that sort of thing. Probably because no matter how hard i've tried i've never been able to do that sort of thing well.

Thanks Bruce. Actually this wasn't a sight-seeing trip. Had to accompany the sis-in-law to do some shopping for things Thai.Very few opportunities for taking photos.Trudging along from shop to shop doesn't actually put you in the mood to take photographs.Any way managed to sneak away for a couple of hours to the morning market where I managed to take a few decent photos - the woman flower vendor for one.
The Doi Suthep Temple complex was very crowded as it was a public holiday to celebrate the birthday of the King of Thailand and it was really difficult to take any decent photos.I had to wait for an opportune moment to take the photo of the golden stupa. Incidentally the stupa is a very important part of the temple[ or' Wat' in Thai], as it houses an important Buddhist relic.

Pic #3- Even modern buildings keep to the traditional style
Pic #4 -View of the wet market with produce from upcountry including the
fresh water fish and jungle collected greens. Fascinating place.

Bruce., does that further whet your appetite to go see Chiengmai? I've got more innteresting photos of Chiengmai and the north but unfortunately they are all slides and I can't post them.

Bravo! I love the photos. The stupa is amazing. I love the shape. Thanks for the additional photographs. I wish I could travel to all of the amazing places people post in our community. I will certainly keep trying. Currently, I am working on a study abroad course & trip to India. I have a proposal in and it looks likely that I will be taking 15-20 students to India in 2010 through my university! (More on that as it develops. )
